About
Teron Nezwek, MD, MBA, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, with expertise in the arthroscopic and open treatment of shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee injuries. He cares for athletes and active individuals of all ages, helping them return safely to work, sports, and the activities they enjoy. He currently serves as a Team Physician for Wesleyan University.
Dr. Nezwek treats a wide range of sports-related injuries and orthopedic conditions, including ACL and other ligament injuries, meniscus and cartilage damage, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, labral injuries, hip impingement, tendon injuries, fractures, and arthritis. He emphasizes personalized, patient-centered care, offering both non-operative treatments and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques when appropriate. In addition to sports medicine procedures, he performs shoulder and knee replacement for patients with advanced arthritis.
A former captain of the Duke University men’s hockey team, Dr. Nezwek earned his medical degree and MBA through the combined MD/MBA program at Tufts University School of Medicine and Brandeis University. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas before pursuing a Sports Medicine Surgery Fellowship at Mass General Brigham/Harvard Medical School, where he received advanced training in complex arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures. During his training, he cared for athletes at every level, including the Dallas Cowboys, Boston Bruins, Boston Marathon, U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team, Harvard Crimson, Stonehill College, and numerous high school athletes.
Dr. Nezwek has a special interest in cartilage preservation and restoration, including MACI, osteochondral allograft transplantation (OCA), knee osteotomy, and other joint-preserving procedures. To further refine these techniques, he completed additional traveling fellowships at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Oregon Health & Science University, and the Cartilage Repair Center at Paley Clinic. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and presentations on cartilage restoration, ACL reconstruction, shoulder instability, hip preservation, shoulder arthroplasty, and the application of artificial intelligence in orthopedic surgery. He also serves as a peer reviewer for Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic & Related Surgery.
Dr. Nezwek believes successful orthopedic care begins with understanding each patient’s goals, lifestyle, and expectations. Whether caring for a competitive athlete or someone who simply wants to stay active, he partners with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan focused on restoring function, relieving pain, and returning them to the activities they love. Outside of medicine, Dr. Nezwek enjoys ice hockey, golf, running, science fiction, and Christopher Nolan films. He lives with his wife, daughter, and border collie in coastal Connecticut.
